How to Track Your Perth Website's Performance (Without Being a Techie)

Most Perth business owners have Google Analytics installed on their website and almost never look at it. When they do log in, they're met with charts, segments, dimensions, and metrics that seem designed to confuse. The good news is you don't need to understand all of it. You only need five numbers to know whether your website is actually doing its job.

The five numbers that matter

First is organic traffic, how many visitors are arriving from Google search without you paying for ads. This number tells you whether your SEO is working. Second is bounce rate, the percentage of visitors who land on a page and immediately leave. A bounce rate above 70% on key pages usually means something is wrong with the page content or load speed. Third is pages per session, which shows whether people are exploring your site or giving up after one page.

Fourth is goal completions: enquiry form submissions, phone click-throughs, or purchases, depending on what actions you want visitors to take. If you haven't set up goals in GA4 yet, that's the first thing to fix. Fifth is traffic source breakdown, which shows you exactly where your visitors are coming from: organic search, social media, direct, or referral. This tells you where to invest more and where to stop.

Checking once a month is enough

You don't need to obsess over analytics daily. A monthly 15-minute review of those five metrics, comparing to the previous month, is enough to spot problems early and double down on what's working. Set a recurring calendar reminder and stick to it. The Perth businesses that grow online are the ones that make decisions based on data, not gut feel.
